Hope for the Real World

By Paul Martin

In sadness she tilts her head toward the ground

Her eyes fill up with tears as she sits down.

Hateful thoughts pound her head like a raging storm.

Frantically she searches for something safe and warm.

Today he found out he was positive.

Now faced with HIV how will he live?

Shame takes over him as he lies on the floor.

All his hopes and dreams seem to be out the door.

I long to tell them how you changed my life

How you rid my heart of hurt and strife.

I want to share with them the grace that is free,

I yearn for them to know why you died on that tree.

Lord I pray that they will find their hope in you.

And come to see how you make things new.

May they praise you for your transforming power,

May your word be written on their hearts forever.

She sits at the bar taking in another shot,

With every drink she says I am going to stop.

At closing time she stumbles into the street.

Now her only comfort is a hangover and grief.

He sits at the computer unable to turn away.

Every image leads him further astray.

Now awaken from his reckless sin

He cries out to God for help again

I long to tell them how you changed my life

How you rid my heart of hurt and strife.

I want to share with them the grace that is free,

I yearn for them to know why you died on that tree.

Lord I pray that they will find their hope in you.

And come to see how you make all things new.

May they praise you for your transforming power

May your word be written on their hearts forever.

Our Hope of Glory
By Paul Martin

Oh Lord your light shines over the earth
Your glory is brighter than the blinding sun
The heavens rumble as they tell of your worth
All creation magnifies You, oh Holy One

You are the bread of life.
You are the truth, the way, the light.
No one can see God apart from you.
You are the one who makes all things new

How can we forget to praise your name?
When the all the earth shouts of your fame
How can we stay silent about this mystery?
That you desire all man to see eternity
For we know you are our hope of glory.

The Prodigal (Luke 15)

By Paul Martin

I have walked a million highways
Some that have left me with regrets
I have lived like a runaway
Hiding from all my debts

I have grooved and moved to Jezabel's dance
I tasted her rich food and her luscious wine
And became lost in her trance.
Now broken I am only fit for swine.

I wonder if my Father will take me back...
For I have sinned against heaven and Him.

Here I am He said to me..
I have forgiven all your deeds
Welcome back to my arms, my son
You were lost and now you are home.
Come rest your head on my shoulder
Come eat and drink of My Word forever

And with those words all heaven erupted
Shouts were heard as the angels celebrated
My heart was overflowing with joy and love
Now I bow down before the true God above
